Got something to say? Motherwords is an irreverent, realistic look at motherhood. We’re looking for submissions that capture the true essence of motherhood and serve as a "neighborhood" where mothers can share experiences and connect with one another. It's a forum for caretakers to talk about ideas and information; a place for writers to stretch their proverbial wings. We are actual moms who want to read and write about real motherhood, kids and life partners.
We welcome submissions from women and men from all over the world. After all, we are all in this together. What could be more universal than child rearing?
We try not to limit the type of submission (articles, poems, photos, essays, comics, graphics) or the length, but since we all know that writers do their best work on deadline with some kind of parameters, a word count of roughly 500-900 is right in the strike zone. And, if you care to add a photo, we will publish that as well provided the quality is printable.
Of course, all submissions may be edited for space and content. Gotta keep it relatively clean, people. This is a family show.
Submission Format
Please, do not format your submission. This means - do not bold, center, use 'cute' or 'large' fonts or format it to look a certain way. By not doing these things you will be making the Design Director's job easier. He thanks you in advance for your cooperation of sending a document single-spaced in 12 point times new roman or courier font. Please view our style guide below for further clarification.
Please send your work as a Microsoft Word (.doc) attachment, including any references if applicable, and a short author biography with contact information to our editorial board at submissions@motherwords.com.
We do read all submissions; however, it may take some time (anywhere from 2-4 weeks) to respond to all of them individually.
Lead Time
Four months.
Payment
Motherwords will pay a very small fee for submissions. We truly value our artists and writers and wish we could pay you what you are worth. Unfortunately at this time, as a small regional start up, we have limited funds. Please help us grow and contribute to what we hope will eventually be a successful endeavor.
We look forward to hearing from you!
